Reposts by way of Livejournal

Noah's Wish is an organization that is currently going around New Orleans (edit: they are awaiting the go ahead to go into the city to retrieve pets) and picking up abandoned pets/ displaced pets. They also have an application where people living within 2 hours of the city can house these pets until their owners can be found and/or be a foster home. They are also taking donations and have an application for volunteering.

*jojo I have no doubt that I'll somehow "house" a few animals after going to Texas this weekend. My dad is doing the donation match at his company for employees giving to the red cross - which I think is an excellent idea for companies to do.

**apparently nbc is doing a telethon for the hurricane (friday) that should include everyone's favorite actor: Leo DiCaprio and possibly George Clooney along with other people.

This guy is basically blogging what is going on where he works in the CBD in New Orleans. He's with directnic.com which is a webhosting company. I once knew a guy that worked for them ages ago. It's really amazing how small a city like that is.

I've talked to Holly on a side note and will be meeting up with her at some point this weekend - she says that she will be picking up the computer from the hotel (it has not been looted) sometime next week. Her brother was there until tuesday morning - they had running water until then. It's really grim. I told her that my house was open and she was like "I may have to get a job here in Lake Charles" to which I had to do my best Danielle moment: Where? She was laughing.

It just sucks, I mean this is her family's livelihood, the hotel and just like that - it's shutdown. They don't see a reopening until Jan 2006. It's still dry in the Quarter. I was telling her the Foot Action on Canal had burned - she says they have no cable tv so they rely on local news. She says the media is trying not to let us know just how bad things are. But being from Texas and having gone through some hurricanes, I can imagine.

On a really random note. Ages ago when I was a poor UNO student I would go to this check cashing place (elysian fields/gentilly) to cash my 72.00 check from the tourist shop in the Closed French Market. Yesterday, I saw the building burning on cnn. I mean how random is that? This is a city that is so close to my heart and it just hurts to see all that it has gone through. Time and again I always say I'm going to visit and something happens to where I can't visit. Only now when it's up and running - I'll be there.
